Voices serves children and youth of all ages, from infants to their 21st birthday. On any given day, through no fault of their own, over 1,500 St. Louis children are in foster care. Voices for Children advocates for those abused and neglected children and youth in St. Louis by representing their best interests in court and in the community. We provide direct legal and social advocacy to children in foster care, through child advocacy teams – attorneys, social workers and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers – who help children achieve safety, stability and a more hopeful future.
We work directly with and for the child, to ensure their safety and well-being. We engage with the many adults in a child’s life – family members, caregivers, teachers, mentors, therapists, and specialists – to create a comprehensive picture of the child’s potential successes and challenges. The Voices team then advocates for the necessary services to help the child thrive and make progress toward a safe and nurturing permanent home, making a difference in a child’s life. Our goal is to be able to serve every child in care, which takes two resources—more CASA volunteers and increased funding to support the training and supervision that a larger volunteer cadre would require.
